Morning Music

Originally posted 25th March 2015

Every morning over the last few weeks we could hear the some jolly music coming from somewhere, but neither of us had really registered it until recently.  Then over the last  week or so I had begun to suspect that a group were doing some Tai Chi practice in the gardens at the back of our block. So this morning I became a net curtain twitcher trying to peer down the 17 floors into the gardens below.
P1060202Well I got that bit wrong.  The sound was coming from across the street.  It’s 7.30am and the Jian Qing Experimental School across the road appear to be having their morning assembly out on their hockey pitches.  They have lined up in what appears to be their games kit, but it is actually their school uniform, and they have watched the red flag of China being raised, at which some, maybe all, saluted.
P1060205There were evidently some notices given out by loud speaker during which the flag-raisers jogged to their places and then the columns were dismissed.  They moved to the far inside edge of the running track and then each group followed their respective banner-carrying leader back, I presume, to their classrooms.  I had expected to see some morning exercises, but the only exercise was the jog behind the banner carrier, well jogging until they caught up with the tail end of the class in front of them, at which point they all dropped to walking pace, just like teenagers all around the world.
